Benefits of Musical Theater

THEATER IS FOR EVERY CHILD

There’s not much more special for a child than the thrill of being on stage. The lights, sets, costumes, and audience applause create a one-of-a-kind feeling. There’s a sense of accomplishment as a performer looks back on the months of hard work that went into the hour or two spent on stage. The teamwork involved often allows children to make life-long friends with their cast mates. Theater is for every child, and there are benefits that performers take with them away from the stage and into other areas of their lives.

Whether a student wants to pursue theater as a hobby or career, these are just some of the many skills learned by participating in theater.

  • Social and self-awareness
  • Interpersonal, decision-making & self- management skills
  • Empathetic, supportive & respectful peer relationships
  • Sustained focus & concentration
  • Positive communication & commitment to group activities

At Heather Wayne’s Performing Arts, we offer performance based theater education to students ages 5-18. Our Majestic Spotlight Players learn all the elements of singing, dancing, and acting and perform in shows in December and May.

Our most recent performance of Meredith Wilson’s THE MUSIC MAN was enjoyed by our audiences who called it “wonderful” and “incredible’. In May, we will be proudly presenting Roald Dahl’s MATILDA THE MUSICAL which played on Broadway for 5 years and is still playing on London’s West End where it opened in 2011.

We are so excited to bring this show to The Venue at Friendship Springs and delight our audiences once again. In addition, as part of our theater program, we also offer a one hour show choir class where students can hone their skills in large group, small, group, and individual performances of a single song.

This work is showcased in a Cabaret and also at HWPA recitals. Please consider joining us for a trial class and plan to be a part of the magic!

Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-8:00 PM. Performances of MATILDA THE MUSICAL will be May 3rd and 4th at 7:00 pm.

Please call our office at 770-967-9010 to set up a trial class.
